ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Coast Guard is asking for comments from the public about the operating schedule of the Bridge of Lions.
Currently the St. Augustine drawbridge opens twice every hour from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, and is opened on demand after 6 p.m.
The city is concerned vehicle traffic is becoming worse, and the on-demand openings are contributing to backups.
A recommendation to the Coast Guard would extend the twice-an-hour opening to 9 p.m. daily, continuing the openings at the hour and half-hour marks. The amended schedule would also stop the bridge from being opened at 3:30 p.m. on weekends and federal holidays.
