JFRD: Person crashes into power pole in Arlington, drives off

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A person who crashed into a power pole causing a wire to come down, drove away from the scene Monday night in Arlington, according to Jacksonville Fire Rescue.

Fire rescue responded to Rogero Road and Merrill Road around 9 p.m. in regard to a wire down.

One person was transported to the hospital, but it is unknown how the person was injured since the vehicle drove off after the accident, fire rescue said.

JEA spokesperson Gerri Boyce said the driver hit a 35-foot wooden power pole and broke it.

Boyce said two customers had power outages.

At the home of one of those customers, the weatherhead -- a service drop entry point where overhead power or telephone wires go into a building -- was ripped off in the crash, Boyce said.

Boyce said JEA cannot restore power until the weatherhead gets fixed.

It is unknown if the driver has been found at this time.
