SUV driver who left scene of Westside crash later found, police say

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A motorcyclist was critically injured Saturday morning in a hit-and-run crash on Old Middleburg Road North on Jacksonville's Westside, police said.

The driver of the SUV that hit the motorcycle left the scene but was found later and is being questioned, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police said the motorcyclist was headed north on Old Middleburg Road about 7:30 a.m. Saturday when the SUV driver turned onto Old Middleburg Road from Memorial Park Road and struck the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet and suffered a potentially life-threatening head injury, police said.

Citations have not yet been issued in the crash, police said.

Traffic going north on Old Middleburg Road North was been diverted to Memorial Park Road and then east on Lenox Avenue back to Old Middleburg Road or Memorial Park Road to Normandy Boulevard and then east to Lane Avenue South.
