FHP: Woman hit, killed on Arlington Expressway

Troopers say pedestrian struck by car driven by 83-year-old woman

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman was struck and killed by a car Monday evening on the Arlington Expressway at Cesery Boulevard, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Lorraine Harris, 83, was driving west at 6:50 a.m. when Heather Merchant da Silva, 36, darted onto the travel lane and was hit. The woman was taken to Memorial Hospital, where she died.

Harris stopped and cooperated with FHP in its investigation.

It's not known why Merchant da Silva entered the road.
