JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The eastbound side of the Mathews Bridge in Jacksonville will be closed from 6 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Sunday as crews continue to rehabilitate portions of the deck.
One inside lane on the westbound side of the bridge will also be closed.
During the closure, drivers will be detoured to the Hart Bridge. Message boards and signs will direct traffic through the detour and law enforcement personnel will be staged to prevent access to the eastbound lanes of the Mathews Bridge. Mariners will not be impacted by the closure.
The project includes a partial deck removal and replacement by construction crews. The work is necessary to extend the service life of the structure and maintain quality standards required by the Florida Department of Transportation.
The project is scheduled to be completed in less than 60 days, weather and schedule permitting.
The $494,885 project was awarded to Orlando R& B, LLC.
