Bicyclist hit by vehicle in St. Augustine dies at hospital

Police urged motorists to avoid Anastasia Blvd. after Friday night crash

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A 48-year-old bicyclist hit by a car early Friday evening near the St. Augustine Alligator Farm has died, according to the St. Augustine Police Department.

Police said Kenneth Kurek was riding south on Anastasia Boulevard about 6:27 p.m. when witnesses said he was struck by a car turning left from Red Cox Drive. Kurek, a St. Augustine resident, was airlifted to Orange Park Medical Center, where he died.

The driver of the car was not named.

Police on Saturday said the crash remains under investigation at this time and did not indicate if the driver would be charged.
