JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A 58-year-old Jacksonville man has been arrested and charged with DUI in a fatal April crash in Duval County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Gilberto Fontanez Gomez was at-fault in a crash April 9 on Beach Boulevard that killed bicyclist Jon Robert Baranoski, troopers said. Baranoski died 11 days after the crash.

According to the crash report, Gomez and Baranoski were both headed east on Beach Boulevard, west of Windmaker Way just before 10 p.m. when Gomez's Chevrolet Silverado veered into the bicycle lane and hit Baranoski's bike from behind, sending the bicyclist into the air. Baranoski hit Gomez's hood and windshield before landing in the road.

Gomez stopped about 0.3 miles east of the crash scene, troopers said.

Troopers said Gomez's blood alcohol level was 0.28, more than three times the legal limit, at the time of the crash.

Gomez has been charged with DUI manslaughter, DUI with property damage, open container and/or consumption of alcohol, seatbelt violation, failure to use the designated lane, attaching a tag not assigned and operating a vehicle without a driver's license and causing a death.

Gomez was found Friday and arrested at a home.

He is being held on $140,000 in the Duval County Jail.
