FHP says pickup truck hit tractor-trailer stopped at traffic light

STARKE, Fla. - A 52-year-old man was killed and 61-year-old woman injured early Wednesday morning when their pickup truck rear-ended a tractor-trailer stopped at a red light on U.S. 301, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers say Debra Sharpe was driving north just before 1 a.m. when she failed to stop for traffic stopped at the intersection of S.E. 48th Ave., south of Starke. Sharpe was seriously injured and taken to Shands Medical Center in Gainesville. David Roberson, a passenger in her car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both victims were residents of Mershon, Ga.

The driver of the big rig, Joseph Goble, 48, of New Port Richey, was not injured.

The FHP report says blood-alcohol test were taken from both drivers and charges are pending.
