Woman, 40, dies in crash into garbage truck

Crash blocks Blanding Blvd. in Middleburg for 3 hours

MIDDLEBURG, Fla. - A 40-year-old Middleburg woman was killed in a crash with a garbage truck Tuesday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

State troopers said the garbage truck owned by Advanced Disposal was traveling on Burroughs Road approaching the intersection of Blanding Boulevard about 1 p.m.

They said Janell Hutchinson was driving south on Blanding in the left lane, and the garbage truck, driven by 49-year-old Christian Thelot, of Delray Beach, made a right turn onto southbound Blanding.

Troopers said that while preparing to make a U-turn, the garbage truck pulled into the left lane and into the path of Hutchinson's car. Her car struck the rear of the truck.

Hutchinson was flown to Orange Park Medical Center, where she died.

The driver and passenger of the truck were not hurt.

The southbound lanes of Blanding were blocked for about three hours for the investigation.

Troopers said charges are pending further investigation.
