Tree falls on shed, fence in Cedar Hills

Storms Wednesday night knock over large limb on Westside

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Heavy rains and high winds in Jacksonville the past two days have caused problems for some homeowners.

On the Westside, a tree went down on a shed and fence and came very close to a house in the Cedar Hills neighborhood.

“It was something else that storm last night. The rain just saturated this tree. You can see the tree has been around for years,” neighbor Bob Cote said.

The house where the tree fell Wednesday off James Road near 103rd Street is a rental and is currently vacant.

Cote, who lives next door, said he saw and heard it come down.

“The next thing you know I heard this tree falling, and when it fell it sounded like a bomb went off,” Cote said. “It was so loud it crushed right through that. And I said, 'Oh, it hit the house.'”

Cote said he contacted the owner, who will begin repairs, but he has to let part of the tree dry for awhile.

“It was so loud the neighbors were coming out and putting flashlights on the tree, so I can't really do nothing with this right now,” Cote said. “The tree is actually on their house over here, so when they go to remove this -- and if I were to go over here and try to remove this it might shift, and I don't want to do any damage to his house next door.”

Cote said he's just glad no one was hurt.
