Tropical Storm Fiona weakens, head north in Atlantic
Tropical Storm 'Fiona' may not survive the next 4 days
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Tropical Storm Fiona is loosing strength and expected to pick speed and Fiona’s maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph with weakening this weekend. expected and it picks up forward speed south of the Bermuda.
At 4 a.m. EDT, Fiona was centered about 1,000 east of the Leeward Islands and it was moving west-northwest at 13 mph. It had winds of 40 mph.
Fiona is forecast to become a tropical depression later Saturday, and could degenerate into a remnant low on Monday.
It appears that at least two more tropical systems could develop and do so rapidly over the next two weeks, so Fiona appears to be just the beginning of a busy period. In fact, the next wave to come off Africa may make a run at the Caribbean as a hurricane in the next 7 to 10 days.
