Afternoon downpours leave streets flooded

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – An overcast morning has turned into an afternoon with locally heavy rainfall.

Abundant water in the atmosphere with widespread cloudiness and has thunderstorms flaring up across northeast Florida and southeast Georgia. These are slow moving storms with frequent lightning and locally heavy rainfall.

News4Jax has received reports of street flooding on Baymeadows Road near Interstate 95, University Boulevard North near Fort Caroline Road and in St. Marys, Georgia.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory until 3:45 p.m. for southeastern Duval County due to heavy thunderstorms, saying an additional 1 to 2 inches of rainfall is expected over the area. 

While the rainfall is widespread in Jacksonville and to the north, southern counties have rainfall mostly near the I-95 corridor.  Chance for the viewing area is 60 percent.
