JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Forecasters say Gert, the second hurricane of the season in the Atlantic Ocean, has begun its turn toward the northeast.
The National Hurricane Center said Gert was about 330 miles northwest of Bermuda on Wednesday morning and had maximum sustained winds of 90 mph. The storm was moving northeast at 21 mph.

Some additional strengthening is possible Wednesday, then Gert is expected to Gert is expected to turn to the east-northeastward and accelerate some more during the next couple, then weaken to an extratropical low by Friday.
Because it was over open water, no coastal watches or warnings are in effect.
Swells generated by Gert will spread northward along the East coast of the United States from North Carolina northward to New York. Swells also are expected to affect Bermuda. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
