Lee weakens to a tropical depression

Lee may weaken through the week as it runs into wind shear

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Lee has now been downgraded to a tropical depression and is moving toward the west near 8 mph through the Central Atlantic. The storm is expected to maintains its west-northwestward motion is expected through Tuesday.

Gradual weakening is expected to occur as the storm moves farther west and encounters significant wind shear.

Lee could degenerate into a remnant low by 48 hours, if not sooner.  The GFS and EURO models both dissipate the tropical wave in 3 to 4 days, so the new NHC forecast now shows that occurring by the middle of the week.
