JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A flood warning covers west-central St. Johns County and central Clay County until 5:30 p.m. around Green Cove Springs, Picolata and Penney Farms.
A flood advisory until 5 p.m. for St. Augustine, Green Cove Springs, Starke, Lake Butler, Raiford,
Worthington Spring, Fruit Cove, Ichetucknee Springs and Middleburg.
Additional rainfall of 2 to 4 inches is expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding.
Weak low pressure is rolling over us which explains the persistent rain today. Flooding is occurring in Fruit Cove, Switzerland and Asbury Lake where storms dumped 3” of rain. Two to 3 inches of rain have fallen in Worthington Springs and Green Cove Springs areas prompting flood concerns until 5 pm along with other spots that will pick up more rain around Bradford County, St. Johns County, Flagler and Clay counties.
The weather is not much of a big deal across southern Georgia. Your rain is done tonight thanks to dry air moving behind an unusually placed cold front for this time of year.
How far south this dry air gets will determine the rain potential Thursday. Right now I expect less rain than today but still a healthy dose 70% scattered showers starting mid to late morning and into the afternoon targeting Northeast Flordia. Rain will be limited north of Nassau County Thursday.
Thursday: Cooler under cloudy skies with scattered showers, storms, some locally heavy. Wake up temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s. Afternoon highs in the 80s to low 90s inland, low 80s along the beaches. Showers and storms, some locally heavy, 60-70 percent across northeast Florida, 20-30 percent across southeast Georgia. Looking ahead: Locally heavy rainfall possible Thursday, Friday with the unsettled pattern lingering through the start of the weekend. Possible Tropical development across the northern Gulf of Mexico, 20 percent - 48 hours, 20 percent - 5 days.
