Hitting the roads should be trouble-free since most weather problems this Memorial Day weekend will settle down after Thursday. There will be rounds of storms Wednesday and Thursday if you’re driving to the Panhandle along I-10.

Friday you may encounter thunderstorms when a slow moving cold front brings rain into north Florida in the afternoon and evening which could add some congestion to the roadways. Otherwise, the rain fades away over the weekend with mostly drier conditions that will last through your return trip home Monday night.

The high cost of gas could keep divers closer to home this holiday. Driving a 20 mpg car from Jacksonville to Miami cost $82.00 this year compared to $51.48 when average gas prices were $2.81 a gallon.

Our beach weather will be more favorable compared to south Florida or the Gulf Coast. In fact, temperatures will be hotter along the Gulf beaches in the low 90s and afternoon storms will target areas from Orlando through the southeast coast Saturday.

If you bought a plane ticket to farther destinations, expect some turbulence Thursday before the weather smooths out Friday.

Large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes are possible Thursday across the Ohio Valley to the Gulf Coast.

The weather improves Friday when much of the country is dry except for areas around the Great Lakes and along the East Coast. A cold front will bring the risk of scattered showers and thunderstorms to those areas which also spreads rain our way in North Florida.
