A few storms as the heat starts to sizzle through the day

Hot enough, but it gets hotter this weekend

.

Increasing showers this afternoon will first cover southern areas from Putnam and St. Johns counties before tracking northward mainly west of the St. Johns River. Scattered storms around the vicinity of Jacksonville are possible late this afternoon. Storms will be short-lived and track northward along and away from the river, primarily staying south of I-10. A second round of heavier rain will be likely this evening between the I-75 and US 301 corridors. Some strong storms in this area will last through 8 pm with gusty winds.

Highs will be in the mid to upper 90s inland with heat index values of 100-103. The heat index pushes up to 107 tomorrow as temperatures increase through the weekend.
