Today marks the start of a heat wave into next week

Scattered showers cut the heat this afternoon

Showers and growing storms will track eastward from inland North Florida. Rain moves away from Lake City this afternoon and will push toward Jacksonville with rain around the coast through 5 to 6 p.m.

Get set for hotter days ahead. The heat sets in with highs topping out in the mid 90s. Highs near 95° will last through the weekend into the middle of next week.

Those cooling afternoon storms will wind down leading to hazy hot days. There is still a 30% chance of afternoon and evening showers before drier air slides in from the east.

African dust over Florida will suppress rain and lead to some hazy skies at times.

Friday rain chances drop to 20% with light south and southwest winds before the sea breeze.
