Iconic Wells Fargo building could reopen soon

Hurricane Irma floodwaters wreak havoc on downtown Jacksonville building

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The iconic Wells Fargo building in downtown Jacksonville could reopen in a matter of days after it was heavily damaged during Hurricane Irma, when floodwaters rushed into the basement, knocking out power to the building and its backup generators, according to an email sent Tuesday to tenants.

In the email to tenants, management said, power and lights are back on in the building and elevators are being tested for safety.

All of the water has been removed from the parking garage and restoration of the garage is nearly complete, the email said.

It was originally estimated that it could be months before the Wells Fargo Center reopened. In a previous email sent last week to tenants, officials with the management company, Banyan Street, wrote, “Although we do not have a specific timeframe at this time, it is going to be weeks/months before the building is open.”

Work to get sewer sludge and water out of the garage has been going on for nearly a week now.
