Tropical Storm Ophelia has formed

Scattered afternoon, evening showers and storms

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A few isolated light rain showers will be possible this morning and then increasing to scattered activity by early this afternoon with some embedded thunderstorms expected as 
the sea-breeze moves inland. This activity will peak across the interior by late this afternoon. Locally heavy rainfall will be possible.

Local Hazards:  A moderate risk of rip currents is in effect for the local beaches.

Scattered to numerous showers and a few embedded thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and early evening. Locally heavy rainfall will be possible.

Tidal flooding will continue within the St. Johns River basin at times of high tide.

Monday:  Above normal temperatures expected along with isolated to scattered showers and storms.  Showers and storms mainly after 1 pm this afternoon, 40 percent chance along the beaches, 60 to 80 percent chance inland.  Afternoon highs in the mid to upper 80s, a few 90s inland.  Wind SSE 5-10 mph.

Tuesday:    Scattered showers and isolated storms, mainly across SE GA during the afternoon, 40-50 percent, 20-30 percent across NE FL.  Lows in the low to mid 70s inland, mid to upper 70s beaches.  Afternoon highs in the upper 80s to low 90s inland, mid to upper 80s along the beaches.  Wind SE 5 - 10 mph.

Tropical Storm Ophelia has formed and is located near latitude 31.4 North, longitude 39.9 West. Ophelia is moving North-northeast near 5 mph, and a turn toward the northeast is expected later today. A motion toward the east-northeast and east is forecast to occur later tonight, followed by a turn toward the east-southeast on Tuesday. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 40 mph with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1008 mb.​
