JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville nonprofit gave away basic hygiene products, meals and other items to mothers experiencing homelessness during a special Mother’s Day event downtown Sunday morning.

Outside the Walls Community Outreach held its 10th annual “Women of Worth” Mother’s Day event at the intersection of Union Street and Newnan Street.

While the event focused on helping mothers, the organization served every person in need who stopped by.

“God has blessed me to see another Mother’s Day,” a woman who attended the event said. “It’s a blessing what they’re doing.”

Apart from warm meals and hygiene products, the organization also gave away gently used clothing, gallon jugs of water, and free haircuts to those in need.

“Anything they can to show the women out here that they are supported,” Volunteer Katherine Weatherspoon said.
