Flag football playoffs: Clay locks down White, Fletcher falls to Pace in 3rd round

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Clay is the area’s lone flag football team still standing entering the fourth round of the state playoffs.

The Blue Devils used another suffocating defensive performance to knock off visiting White 13-0 in the Region 1-1A final on Tuesday night. Clay (13-1) has posted shutouts in 12 of its 14 games this season. It allowed 14 points to Super 6 No. 1 Fleming Island in its lone defeat this year. Outside of the Golden Eagles, only Stanton has managed to find the end zone against Clay’s ferocious defense.

The Blue Devils advanced to Friday’s state quarterfinal where they travel to face Fort Walton Beach Choctawhatchee.

The Commanders finished their season 16-4.

Region 1-2A

The best season in Fletcher flag football history ended with a 31-13 loss on the road to Pensacola Pace. The Patriots built an 18-7 lead at the break and added to it in the second half to end Fletcher’s season. Jasmine Cross had touchdown passes to Arabella Thomas and Ashley Mohrmann for Fletcher’s touchdowns. The Senators finished 12-4.
