Annual back-to-school tax holiday shortened to 3 days

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – As the back-to-school tax-free weekend gets underway, teachers and students alike will be able to take advantage of a variety of deals on school supplies.

Parents need to act fast. The tax holiday is a lot shorter this year. In years past the annual holiday has been up to nine or 10 days, being shortened to only three this year.

Other changes include what is and what is not included on the tax-free list.

Included items:

  • School supplies priced at $15 or less
  • Clothing that costs $60 or less
  • Basic footwear

Not included items:

  • Clothing more than $60
  • Skates, roller blades and swim fins
  • Computers, printers and accessories

At the Teacher Supply Depot in Lackawanna, workers expect at least 700 teachers to turn out Friday. The store opens its doors at 8:30 a.m., but it will be hosting an outdoor expo at 7:30.
