2 killed, Greyhound bus damaged in wrong-way crash on I-75

JASPER, Fla. – Two drivers died when a 91-year-old man driving the wrong way on Interstate 75 near the Florida-Georgia border late Friday night struck an SUV and a Greyhound bus.

Troopers said a 91-year-old man was driving south in the northbound lanes when he ran head-on into the bus and a Ford Expedition at mile marker 449, about 10 miles south of Jasper in Hamilton County.

The car's driver, Ernest Lee Holmes, from High Springs, Fla., was killed in the accident, according to the FHP report.  The
man driving the SUV, Peter Linek, 55, of Ormond Beach, also died.

The bus left Orlando about 8:15 p.m. and made a stop in Gainesville before heading north toward Atlanta.  The Florida Highway Patrol was called just before midnight to the scene of the accident.

Troopers said there were 42 passengers on board the bus at the time of the crash and 13 of them sustained injuries.

FHP's Traffic Homicide Investigation unit is investigating the multiple-vehicle crash.
