JSO: 24-year-old dies after shooting outside club

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 24-year-old man died after a shooting early Saturday morning outside a club in the back of a northwest Jacksonville building, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

About 5 a.m., police were investigating a report of shots fired in the back of Spring Grove Road club called "the Yard."

Officers found the victim -- later identified as Frankie Palmer -- shot in the passenger seat of a car. Palmer was transferred to UF Health Jacksonville Hospital, where he died.

News4Jax crime and safety analyst Gil Smith pointed out that more than one kind of bullet casing was found at the scene.

"The evidence shows there was many more than one gun fired, so it looks like there may have been a group of people or several people who were after this guy," said Smith. "They'll interview his family and friends to see if he was involved in any activity that would cause a group of people that would want to come after him."

Sgt. Dan Janson with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said police are working diligently to track down the shooter.

"I know that we received a lot of calls in our dispatch center and I'm having all those calls pulled so we can listen to them downtown as well," said Jansen. "It's a long process and it takes a little while, but everything is fresh and it's moving, so we'll look into it and see what we can come up with."

Several others were detained from the club and were taken in for questioning.

On Monday, please said the case was being investigated as a murder, but did not provide any information about suspects.
