39 high school students safe after charter bus catches fire

Bus returning from Tallahassee to Jacksonville burns on I-10 at U.S. 301

BALDWIN, Fla. – All eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 were closed just before 5 p.m. Friday due to a fire of a charter bus carrying a Jacksonville high school group returning from a trip to Tallahassee. 

The Florida Highway Patrol said 39 students from Eagle's View Academy and their chaperones got off the bus safely, and a new bus was sent to bring them home.

The cause of the fire was not yet known. Troopers continue to investigate.

All eastbound lanes reopened about 8:45 p.m.
