JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Duval County jury convicted Wilson Holmes, 60, Wednesday of kidnapping and two counts of sexual battery.

Prosecutors say Holmes attacked a 35-year-old victim as she was leaving the 24-hour lobby of the post office on Bush Drive just before midnight Jan. 15, 1999.

Holmes dragged the woman back inside the building and repeatedly beat and choked her. The woman attempted to fight back by biting Holmes, but she lost
consciousness during the attack. Holmes then raped the victim before fleeing the scene.

During a follow-up investigation in 2010, DNA samples collected from the victim's
teeth during the initial investigation were resubmitted for processing. It was found that Holmes' DNA matched the DNA recovered from the victim after this incident.

Holmes, who is on parole for his involvement in a Georgia homicide, now faces
life in prison. He will be sentenced April 28.
