Arc Jacksonville Village opens on Southside

1st independent community for intellectually, developmentally disabled adults

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Arc Jacksonville opened the nation's first independent living community for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities Wednesday.

The Arc Jacksonville Village is located off of Kirbo Way near Hodges Boulevard on the city's Southside. The neighborhood includes community center and recreational facilities for its residents.

The $22.2 million project provides housing for up to 126 residents. 

Jacksonville Jaguars' Blake Bortles attended Wednesday's ribbon cutting and hundreds of people took a tour of the community center and model apartments.

The Arc's mission is to provide people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to achieve their full potential.
