Baker Co. substitute teacher accused of 'sexting'

GLEN ST. MARY, Fla. – A 34-year-old substitute teacher was arrested after Baker County deputies investigating a sexual harassment call at Baker County High School say they found inappropriate text messages to a 16-year-old on her cellphone.

According to the report, Leila Wilford was arrested last Friday and charged with obscene communication, a third-degree felony.

The report says that Wilford friended Baker County High School students on a Facebook account she shared with her husband, then her husband "deleted the students off their page because he did want to see the things the students were talking about."

Investigators say continued the conversation with a 16-year-old boy to the Kik text messaging service exchange, where she asked to see him with his shirt off, then later added "I want to have crazy mad sex with someone who can kiss."

Wilford told detectives during her interview she could see how her comments could be misconstrued, according to the report.

Wilford's telephone was confiscated and she was booked into the Baker County Detection Center and released the next day on $15,000 bond.

Baker County School Superintendent Sherrie Raulerson said Wilford passed a course to become a substitute teacher last September.  After she passed background and drug tests, she was hired.

Raulerson added that she Wilford will not work in Baker County schools again, adding that the safety and welfare of students are their highest priority.

"To have to be dealing with something like this is just a tragedy," said Baker County Sheriff Joey Dobson. "We do we hate it because we know these people. We know the student and we know the teacher and her family."

Baker County 13-year-old Ashley Carter is home schooled. She says these type of things make her happy she's not enrolled in public school.

:A teacher should be a person you can talk to and look up to, not someone thats supposed to be attracted to you," she said.
