4 cars damaged in carrier fire on I-95 south of Old St. Augustine Road

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A commercial car carrier caught fire on I-95 south of Old St. Augustine Road Monday morning, blocking the two right lanes and causing backups to northbound traffic during morning rush hour.

All lanes were re-opened around 9 a.m.

Several cars on the carrier are on fire.

Both the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department and the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to the scene.

Several of the cars on the carrier sustained fire damage, as seen in the photo below.

Video of the fire showed smoke billowing from at least one of the cars on the carrier.

According to The Florida Highway Patrol, one o the tires on the left side of the the semi-truck trailer caught on fire for unknown reasons. The fire spread quickly, causing 4 vehicles to catch on fire.. The driver was able to safely bring the truck to a stop on the northbound shoulder of I-95. Firefighters with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department was able to extinguish the fire. A total of 4 vehicles on the trailer, however, were damaged by the fire.
