Car fire leads to marijuana arrest

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. – A car fire at a home led deputies to arrest a man on drug charges after they found more than five pounds of marijuana, cash and an illegal firearm, according to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said they came up the car fire about 10 p.m. Tuesday at 309 N.E. Alpha Terrace and saw 37-year-old Travis Carter trying to extinguish the fire.

As the deputies approached with their fire extinguisher, they could smell marijuana coming from the home, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Drug investigators obtained a search warrant and seized more than five pounds of marijuana, a large amount of cash and an illegal firearm.

Carter was arrested and booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility on various charges.
