Coast Guard helicopter spots flashlight, rescues girls, dog Teenagers in canoe got stuck in marsh on Wilmington Island No description found
WILMINGTON ISLAND, Ga. – A flashlight and a keen-eyed Coast Guard crew are being credited for saving two young teenage girls and their dog Monday night on Wilmington Island.
The 14 and 15-year-olds' canoe somehow got stuck in the marsh.
UNCUT: Coast Guard rescues 2 teens, dog stuck in marsh
It just so happened a Coast Guard Air Station Savannah MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew was training in the area. That's when the crew spotted a light, and realized it was coming from a flashlight on the canoe.
The rescue took just 20 minutes. At 8:10 p.m., the girls and the dog were hoisted into the helicopter with a basket and then flown to Air Station Savannah -- where they arrived at 8:30 p.m.
The Coast Guard tells News4Jax, it's not sure just how long the girls were out there before being spotted, but did say the teenagers and the dog are in good condition.
