Missing woman's body found at Matheson Hammock Park

Jacksonville native disappeared from boat over Memorial Day weekend

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Miami-Dade police have confirmed that the body that was found at Matheson Hammock Park is Lauren Lamar, a Jacksonville native who disappeared from a boat in Biscayne Bay.

Police said that Lamar was last seen on Sunday night after allegedly falling off a boat during Memorial Day weekend.

A man and woman from Miami Beach were being questioned in Lamar's disappearance and death.

Coast Guard crews had been searching for 26-year-old Lamar in Biscayne Bay, and had placed posters around Miami to help in the search.

Lamar was reported missing early Monday morning when a 29-foot boat returned to a marina area, and the man and woman on board said they realized she wasn't on the boat. The man is 45-year-old Russell Bruce, and the woman is 28-year-old Alisha Nicole Bartolota.

Bruce owns a nightclub, which is where he met Lamar. It's unclear how long the two knew each other.

Bruce and Bartolota told authorities they thought Lamar was below deck as they traveled from Stiltsville to Matheson Hammock Park. They are being questioned by the missing persons unit, authorities said, which is standard procedure.

The Miami-Dade police are now heading the investigation into Lamar's death. The U.S. Coast Guard, Miami-Dade police and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission were originally working in concert to help find Lamar.

Officials with the FWC said it was unusual for such a small group to not realize someone was missing.

There's no word on whether alcohol or drugs might have been involved in Lamar's disappearance and death.
