Man, 40, dies in I-10 crash overnight

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 40-year-old Jacksonville man died in a crash late Wednesday night on Interstate 10 between U.S. 301 and Cecil Commerce Center Parkway.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a tractor-trailer driven by Rulx Douge, 49, of Jacksonville, was driving east in the outside lane of I-10 near Otis Road, west of Cecil Commerce Parkway. About 11:45 p.m. the semi rear-ended a tow truck driven by Mohammed Hassan.

The big rig went across the median into the westbound lanes before colliding with the tree line. The tow truck went off the eastbound lanes highway, also colliding with the tree line.

Hassan died in the crash.

About 10 miles of I-10 between U.S. 301 and Cecil Commerce Center was closed all night, reopening just before 8 a.m.

"This crash happened just before the midnight hour and has been a very complex scene, not only for evidence collection but also for cleanup," said FHP Sgt. Dylan Bryan. "A very large amount of debris was cast onto the interstate in reference to this crash, as well as vehicle fluid such as hydraulic fluid, oil and so forth."

According to the FHP report, charges are pending against the tractor-trailer driver after an investigation.
