Police investigate after body found in Englewood ditch

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Someone walking along Spring Glen Road Sunday morning called 911 after seeing a man's body in a ditch, police said.

Jacksonville Fire-Rescue was called about 8:10 a.m. to the scene, between the Interstate 95 overpass and the traffic circle with Spring Park Road, and found the man, later identified as Gary Lee Showalter, 59, dead.

Officials said they do not suspect foul play at this time. Showalter lived about three blocks from where his body was found.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office homicide Sgt. Chuck Ford said it would be up to the Medical Examiner's Office to determine how Showalter died.

Detectives were reviewing missing person's reports and said they were checking to see where Showalter may have been in the hours before his death.
