Deputies: Man stole $400 from Girl Scouts

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – Deputies in St. Johns County arrested a 22-year-old man after they said he stole money from Girl Scouts.

Edmund Allen is charged with grand theft.

Deputies said he grabbed a jar with $400 cash at a Publix grocery store in St. Augustine. The cash belonged to Girl Scouts, who were selling cookies at the time.

Allen was arrested two days after the theft after deputies identified him.

Deputies said they found him and 22-year-old Joseph Usina smoking marijuana in a shed in the St. Augustine Shores community.

Usina was also arrested on a marijuana possession charges.

Several businesses and individuals have reached out to donate monies to the Girl Scout Troop.

Additionally, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge (#113) President Chris Acosta, as well as Sheriff David Shoar have each pledged $400 donations to the group.

"The monies in this case cannot be recovered due to the actions of the arrested individual," Shoar said. " I am pleased that the collective law enforcement community made a donation through our local lodge, and I am honored to make a personal donation to this group of girls, who are making a difference in our community."
