Dozens of sea turtles released off Jekyll Island

The Georgia Sea Turtle Center released 40 loggerhead turtles

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – Dozens of sea turtle hatchlings are now out in the ocean thanks to the help of the Georgia Sea Turtle Center. They helped 40 loggerheads make it to sea Wednesday evening.

More than 300 people gathered on Glory Beach at the south end of Jekyll Island to see the hatchlings off.

These turtles were taken away by the turtle patrol when they hatched too late in the day, and would have been "baked" by the sun. The nest was covered until Wednesday night when the temperature was more suitable for their big trip.

The Georgia Sea Turtle team released terrapin hatchlings with radio trackers into the marsh and the trackers will be used to understand how the terrapins move around and feed.
