3-year-old on bike hit, killed in Clay County

FHP: 21-year-old driver cooperating

MIDDLEBURG, Fla. – A 3-year-old boy riding a bike with two adults was hit and killed by a car Friday on College Drive at College Park Drive in Middleburg, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The accident happened just before 8 p.m.

Blake Carter was transported to Orange Park Medical Center and then airlifted to UF Health Jacksonville with life-threatening injuries. He died shortly after, state troopers said.

Troopers said 21-year-old Travis Little was driving on College Drive when saw the two adult cyclists and attempted to maneuver around them. But the driver didn't see the 3-year-old boy and struck him, the FHP said. Little had minor injuries.

The adult cyclists, who are family friends of the boy, were not injured. The boy's family has been notified.

Little, the driver, immediately stopped and is cooperating with investigators, the FHP said.

All northbound lanes of College Drive were closed but have since re-opened.

An investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol continues.
