Man identified in head-on crash in Putnam Co. Dash camera recorded entire accident No description found
SAN MATEO, Fla. – A 61-year-old man was killed Friday morning in a head-on crash in Putnam County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened about 10:45 a.m. Friday on State Road 100 just east of Tram Road in San Mateo, according to Putnam County Fire Rescue.
The Florida Highway Patrol said David Freeman was driving westbound when his pickup truck crossed the center line. Freeman's truck crossed the line two to three miles before colliding head-on with 40-year-old Darius Mcclain, who was driving eastbound in a tow truck.
Freeman died in the collision.
Officials said Mcclain tried to avoid the crash by pulling over onto the shoulder of the road. His active dash camera recorded the entire accident.
S.R. 100 east of Tram Road was closed in both directions for much of Friday, but has reopened.
