I-10 reopens after fiery tractor-trailer wreck

LAKE CITY, Fla. – All westbound lanes of Interstate 10 were closed for hours Monday morning after a tire separated on a tractor-trailer, resulting in a wreck and fire.

The accident was cleared from the roadway and traffic was moving again by midday, although the Florida Highway Patrol reported that the inside lane at Mile Marker 310 due to damage to the roadway.

According to the FHP, the truck driver lost control about 7:45 a.m. when the tire came apart. The trailer struck a barrier wall and came off the cab that was pulling it and caught fire, blocking both westbound lanes.

Westbound traffic was detoured at U.S. 90 in Sanderson. Troopers said I-10 would be closed for several hours.

The driver, Joseph Johnson, 46, of Maryland, was not injured.
