Firefighters battle house fire in Moncrief

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Firefighters with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department worked overnight to contain a house fire in Moncrief.

The fire was reported around 4:11 a.m. at a home on Ardisia Road, which is off Moncrief Road near Raines High School. The fire took around 25 minutes and multiple crews to contain.

The State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire to determine if it is suspicious. This was a vacant home without any furniture inside. The flames did cause a significant amount of damage to the roof, according to deputy chief Dave Westberry, and most of the main hallway was damaged.

"No other homes were damaged there were no other injuries," said Westberry.

Neighbor Lisa McGowan heard the fire and called 911.

"I heard it around about 4:30 a.m. and I heard a popping sound and I heard my neighbor knock at the door and he was like, 'The house next door is on fire and you might want to move your car.' So I moved my car and called 911," said McGowan.
