Mail truck bursts into flames after wreck on I-75 in Gainesville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – If some of your mail doesn't show up for the holidays, a fiery wreck involving a U.S. Postal Service truck in Gainesville may explain why.

The crash happened about 3:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 two miles south of Newberry Road, according to Gainesville Fire Rescue.

Firefighters answering calls from that location found a pillar of smoke spewing into the air and a U.S. mail truck and a cargo trailer engulfed in flames, the fire department said.

Paramedics treated three people, who were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The crash shut down the interstate from Archer Road to Newberry Road for two hours while rescuers knocked down the flames and cleared the scene.
