School bus driver hits boy on bicycle

Witness told troopers boy pedaled into bus' path

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – A school bus driver struck a 7-year-old boy riding a bicycle in Alachua County Tuesday afternoon.

Elizabeth Carnegie, 65, was stopped on SW 19th Court while students exited the bus.

The boy was riding his bicycle on SW 68th Terrace.

A witness said as Carnegie began moving westbound, the boy tried to cross SW 19th Court and entered the bus' path.

The bus struck the boy and he was thrown onto the roadway.

He was taken to UF Health Gainesville in serious condition.

No one on the bus was injured.

Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
