Burglar steals safe from Orange Park pizza restaurant

Nearby business' surveillance camera catches burglary

ORANGE PARK, Fla. – The owners of an Orange Park pizza shop are on edge after a smash-and-grab burglary at their restaurant.

Deputies said a safe was taken from Rosina's Pizza on Wells Road.

Thanks to a nearby business' surveillance camera, officials are finally getting a look at the person responsible.

The burglar can be seen walking out with the restaurant's safe before getting into a late model Nissan Sentra and driving off.

News4Jax spoke with the owner of the restaurant off-camera on Tuesday. She said the man shattered the front window of the restaurant and pried open the cash register to get some cash before heading to the back and making off with the safe.

News4Jax crime & safety analyst Gil Smith said unfortunately these types of smash-and-grabs are all too common.

"Quite often, criminals, they'll scout a place out," Smith said. "Now, this business, they may have known they may not have had a burglar alarm or any type of motion sensors inside, so they'll come inside and just sit around to see if they have security cameras and just get a layout of the place to see where everything is and come back later and commit the crime."

Anyone with information on the man's identity is asked to call the Clay County Sheriff's Office.
