FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. – An employee of Kinder-Morgan died Friday morning in an industrial accident at the Port of Fernandina Beach, according to police.
Timothy Dubberly, 58, was in a loading crane doing electrical work when the cab separated and he fell 100 feet to the ground, according to Fernandina Beach police.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified of the fatality and the port was shut down while Fernandina Beach police and the company investigated the accident.
“Port work is dangerous work because of what they do, but they have a great safety record here at the Port of Fernandina," Deputy Chief Mark Foxworth said. "Occasionally we do get some incidents, however its very rare."
Kinder-Morgan, which is contracted to manage the port, released a statement:
"Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family. The company is providing grief counselors for employees at the terminal and also seeing to the needs of Mr. Dubberly’s family."
