ORLANDO, Fla. – A state prosecutor sounded off after he was fired for making offensive comments on social media in the wake of the June 12 mass shooting at an Orlando nightclub.
Assistant State Attorney Kenneth Lewis, who was fired Thursday after initially being suspended last week for his remarks, tweeted his outrage over the decision.

"I just got fired for a Facebook post after 20 years as a prosecutor. The Founding Fathers would turn in their graves. God help this country!" Lewis tweeted.
State Attorney Jeff Ashton said Lewis violated the state attorney office's social media policy when he posted on Facebook the day of the shooting, saying, "All Orlando nightclubs should be permanently closed. With or without random gunmen they are zoos; utter cesspools of debauchery."
Lewis also described downtown Orlando as "a melting pot of third-world miscreants and ghetto thugs."
Lewis said in his disciplinary response that the policy violates his free speech.
He was previously reprimanded for making inappropriate comments on social media.
Forty-nine people were killed and 53 others were injured in the shootings at Pulse nightclub.
