The Sheriff’s Office said officers tried to disarm the man by shooting him with their stun guns. The shocks had a limited effect on the man, who remained armed. Both officers then shot him with their handguns.

The man was taken to the Putnam Community Hospital, where he died of his injuries, police said.

At the request of Sheriff Gator DeLoach, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement will conduct an investigation.

Authorities have not released the names of those involved.
