Drug bust at St. Augustine home concerns neighbors

Deputies say substances believed to be various types of narcotics found inside

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A drug bust Tuesday at a St. Augustine home shut down Pellicer Road, just off of County Road 208 and west of the outlets, for hours and caused concern for neighbors.

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office has not released much information, but deputies said they found substances believed to be drugs of various types inside the home.

Detectives could be seen searching the house for hours. Neighbors said they hope the discovery of any drugs would bring them one step closer to living in a clean community.

"We know a lot of people that live here, so we look out for each other," said Allan Pierce, who has lived on the street for 20 years.

Pierce told News4Jax that he also knows the people who live in the house being searched.

"It's not really a relationship," Pierce said. "It's just, we know that they are there. They've had issues in the past."

Pierce snapped a photo showing law enforcement vehicles lining his road. He, along with other neighbors, said they saw detectives going in and out of the home for hours Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Sheriff's Office, substances believed to be narcotics of various types were found inside.

Another viewer told News4Jax that he saw people dressed in hazmat suits going into the home. The Department of Children and Families was also called, according to neighbors.

But Pierce said he's glad the incident occurred so his neighborhood can be cleaned up.

"It worries me that it happened here. We did know that, in the past, there was drug activity, but the guy had got arrested. We thought he was gone," he said. "Then today, all this happened. And, yeah, we don't need it in our neighborhood."

Deputies are being very tight-lipped, and told News4Jax that they have a lot of testing to conduct to determine what drugs were found.
