Fort Mose's legacy to be honored in St. Augustine

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The legacy of Fort Mose will come to life in St. Augustine during a special event as part of Black History Month.

The Castillo de San Marcos National Monument will host 'Castillo by Candlelight: Flight to Freedom' on Saturday, February 20.

Volunteers will share the legacy of Fort Mose as the first legally sanctioned free African settlement in what would become the United States.

Programs will last about 45 minutes each, departing from the ticket booth at 6:00, 6:30, 7:00, 7:30, 8:00 and 8:30 p.m.

Non-refundable tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis and go on sale two weeks prior to the event.

Space is limited.

The cost is $10 per adult ages 16 and up, $5 per child ages 5-15 and children under 5 are free.
