PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – A teacher and a student were hospitalized Friday morning after a fight broke out at Pines Middle School in Broward County, authorities said.
Pembroke Pines police said a 13-year-old girl stabbed another 13-year-old girl with a pair of scissors shortly after 9 a.m. Authorities said the girls fought in a hallway between classes.

The teen accused in the stabbings was arrested and taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center. Authorities said the fight started because of an argument exchanged over social media.
According to police, a 13-year-old boy and a teacher, Dorthea Oatt, 59, tried to break up the fight and were also injured.
In a statement to WPLG-TV, Broward County Public Schools spokeswoman Tracy Clark said the fight was "the result of a personal conflict between the two students."
"School staff and the school resource officer responded immediately to the incident and followed all proper protocols," Clark said. "Pembroke Pines police and the district's Special Investigative Unit also responded."
Police said the girl and teacher were stabbed on their left shoulders and were taken to a hospital. The boy was cut on his left hand and was treated at the scene by Pembroke Pines Fire Rescue.
"The safety of our students and staff is always our highest priority," Clark said. "Based on the school's investigation and review of the altercation, the students involved will receive the appropriate disciplinary actions as outlined in the Student Code of Conduct Disciplinary Matrix."
A Broward Teachers Union representative said the union president is attempting to contact the teacher.
